Schiedam
Schiedam is a town near Rotterdam with a population of 77,000 inhabitants.
It is known for its distilleries that produce the best gin in the Netherlands, as well as for having the world’s tallest windmills and for its shipyards.
In the 18th century, Schiedam became the global capital of Dutch gin production. At its peak in the 19th century, there were twenty operating mills grinding various grains for the local distilleries.
Today, only seven of those mills remain in the historic center.
The town also has historic mansions and a charming baroque-style city center.
There are over 175 listed houses in the city’s register of historic buildings.
The Stedelijk Museum, housed in the historic St. Jacobs Gaasthuis, showcases a collection of antiques and archaeological artifacts.
The Wilton-Feijenoord shipyard is a showcase of the Netherlands as a shipbuilding country.

How to get to Schiedam from Rotterdam
From Rotterdam Central Station you can take the train to Schiedam. The journey takes about 15 minutes.
You can also go by metro (about 10 minutes from Rotterdam Beurs), or by tram (about 45 minutes).
