Millennium Tower
The Millennium Tower, a tall and impressive building reaching a height of 131 meters (including the mast, 149 meters), stands proudly in front of Rotterdam Central Station.
With 35 floors, it is one of the tallest buildings in Rotterdam. The tower was constructed on the last available plot on Weena Avenue, occupying a small corner measuring 30 by 40 meters, between the Plaza complex and the De Doelen Concert and Convention Center.
The tower’s design seems to have been inspired by famous American skyscrapers like the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building. The Canadian architecture firm WZMH (Webb Zerafa Menkes Housden) crafted the main structure and façade, while the technical details were handled by a Dutch company.
Originally named Millennium Tower because it was supposed to be completed by the year 2000, it now serves as the luxurious Rotterdam Marriott Hotel.
The first 15 floors of the Millennium Tower house the upscale Hotel Marriott. With 245 rooms, this modern five-star hotel offers a delightful stay. The lower three floors feature the entrance, lobby, a restaurant, and a gym, while the remaining floors provide 20,000 square meters of office space.
Access to the De Doelen Convention Center is provided via a convenient sky bridge.
The hotel’s entrance is on Weena Avenue, while the offices have a separate entrance on Kruisplein. The building has twelve elevators, allowing separate access to the hotel and office areas.
The construction of the tower utilized the BubbleDeck system, a new method in the Netherlands and a pioneering global project.
Once completed, the Millennium Tower became the second tallest building in the Netherlands, symbolizing architectural excellence and innovation.
