Maritiem Museum

The Maritiem Museum was founded in 1874 by Prince Hendrik and is the oldest maritime museum in the Netherlands.

At that time, the museum exhibited around 300 objects, including ship models, technical models, and a small library of engravings and drawings.

Since 1998, the number of objects has grown to half a million, divided into categories such as ship models, paintings, engravings, drawings, nautical charts and globes, ship plans, photos, films, videos, navigation instruments, nautical instruments, ship furnishings, and numerous personal items.

Located in Leuvehaven, Rotterdam, visitors can also explore historic vessels and cranes moored at this dock.

The Ik doop u collection illustrates the steps followed in shipbuilding from the 17th century to the present day.

Another exhibition, Dealing with Drugs, is focused on teenagers and addresses the issue of drug trafficking in the port and the Rotterdam underworld.

For younger visitors, Professor Plons aims to introduce children to life at sea.

This museum is highly popular among children in Rotterdam, who can spend hours playing on the terrace. The museum also hosts birthday parties.
