Het Park
Het Park, covering over 6 hectares, is the oldest park in the city. It was designed by landscape architect J.D. Zocher and completed in 1852.
In the past, wealthy people in Rotterdam had country houses in this area. Some of those historical buildings that remain in the park are Orangeriegebouw (1870) and Het Heerenhuys (early 1800s).
Today, Het Park is a public recreational area next to the Euromast tower. It has ponds, statues, restaurants, and pathways.
In Het Heerenhuys, you can see surviving Dutch gardens from the 1960 Floriade exhibition. The Norwegian Chapel, built in 1912, is also located in the park. Admission is free.
Since 2011, this whole area has been listed as a national monument.
There’s a hill by the riverside that offers a wonderful view of the Nieuwe Maas river.
Among other attractions, there is a mini-golf course, the Pannekoekenboot (pancake boat) stop, a laser game boat, and the Chinese Boat (a Chinese restaurant boat).
Several festivals and concerts take place in this park during the summer.
