Arboretum Trompenburg
Arboretum Trompenburg is one of the 19 botanical gardens in the Netherlands.
Its name comes from the Dutch admiral Maarten Harpertszoon Tromp, who lived on the property in the 17th century.
The arboretum features a unique collection of more than 4,000 different types of trees, perennial plants, shrubs, as well as aquatic plants and flowers.
Inside, you’ll also find a nursery with succulent plants and cacti, a pond with goldfish, a heather garden, rose gardens, and a visitor information center. The Hosta collection, with 750 varieties, and the various kinds of rhododendrons are truly special. Two types of trees known as ‘Rotterdam’ and ‘Trompenburg’ are also one-of-a-kind.
There is an entrance fee, although Rotterdampas cardholders can enter for free all year round.
Tip: If you plan on visiting this park, autumn is a great time to go.
